"TWO WEEKS THAT CHANGED THE WORLD: The events of September 11 through Sept 25th"
Within hours of the attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon, members of the Bush administration began to look for
evidence that Iraq was somehow tied to the attacks.  In the two weeks that followed decisions were made at the highest levels
that would ensure that the path to war would lead to Baghdad. By the end of the second week, the Pentagon was working on
war plans, a legal justification was found for pre-emptive war against Saddam and a public relations campaign begun, all before
the fires of the attacks had been extinguished.

Welcome to the home of the IraqFact Working Group, a
cooperative effort of bloggers, educators, and researchers to
examine the truth about the path to war. The main goal of
IraqFact is to provide insight into events that led up to the US
involvement in Iraq.

Much of the information that is presented in his site could be
viewed by some as "old news", but for many more, the questions
raised about how this nation was taken to war remain unanswered.
Hopefully the information contained here can help to start to
answer some of those questions.

Using a multileveled approach to present the information, we hope
that the resources available at this site will be easily accessible to
those just beginning to re-examine the subject, while still being
comprehensive enough to satisfy even the most knowledgeable.

For those just starting out, our "
Quickfacts", "Big Picture" and
"
Events at a Glance" sections provided a good starting point. For
those more familiar with the subject, our "
Investigations" and
Research Resources
" will be of interest. The "Misled into War"
Timeline is an invaluable resource for everyone seeking
information about the period.

The mission of the IraqFact Working Group is to chronicle our most
recent history in order to ensure that the true stories of the
events of the period are never lost to political revisionism.

…the historical memory of a nation is not merely a repository. Our
vision of the past channels our vision of the future .... This
memory is actually a very important factor in struggle .... If one
controls people's memory, one controls their dynamism .... It is
vital to have possession of this memory, to control it, to administer
it, tell it what it must contain. Collective memory is the toolshed,
tomorrow's ideological arsenal, from which political concepts and
symbols are selected, reinterpreted, and manipulated both by
established governments and opposition groups. It may wait for
decades, patiently dormant, only to be reactivated suddenly as an
explosive, contagious force.
